One Of Them Days Review & Analysis
Amount Of Times Watched (in theaters): 4
Written By: Ella Collins

Keke Palmer and SZA are a force of nature together and were made to play the two chaotic pretty best friends. I have not kept up with Keke Palmer since probably her days on Disney Channel but when I saw a glimpse of this movie I was intrigued and most definitely ready for its release. SZA is most memorable for her achievements as a musician but now you can add acting to the list, at least comedy anyway, because she very much gave what she needed to give for this role. I am excited to see what her future career has in store for her when it comes to acting (hopefully another movie with and Keke Palmer).

One of Them Days is about best friends who are roommates Dreux and Alyssa trying to make back the rent money Alyssa’s boyfriend stole from them all before midnight so they don’t get evicted. We follow the two roommates on this adventure that only comes with more issues and more debt. Many attempts are taken and sacrifices are made to get the money that they owe and while some are unsuccessful they are successful at giving the audience a good laugh. It all ends up working out in the end one way or another.

One of Them Days is nothing short of chaotic but in a really entertaining, really funny, heartwarming sort of way. This movie had me falling out of my seat with laughter. I could not get enough of Keke and SZA and am already craving more of them. While I would not necessarily consider this a film for the whole family I would definitely consider it one to bring all your friends to on a night out. The story as well as the characters are well developed throughout and are able to have that connection developed between them and the audience. When you have an icon like Issa Rae producing you cannot really go wrong.

Masked behind all the laughs that this movie provides is an important message about the importance of pushing through a hard day because it will always turn out okay and for the purpose of this movie it all came together in twenty four hours but real life isn’t always like that. Sometimes it takes a day, a week, or even a year but eventually it all comes together, you just have to fight for it and keep (sometimes creatively) working through those obstacles life throws your way. Even when it feels like one of those days where the universe is undeniably against you eventually one way or another it will have your back in the end.
