We Live In Time Review & Analysis
Amount Of Times Watched (in theaters): 6
Written By: Ella Collins

We Live In Time is a raw yet real look at love and shows gives us a glimpse of parts of love that movies do not always showcase. This movie holds a special place in my heart not only because it has an aspect to it that romance movies never had before but also because of the fact that I felt connected to this movie around a year or two before it actually came out because I saw the pictures of Andrew and Florence filming posted on social media and immediately fell in love. Originally, I thought it was because they were dating but then when i found out a while later that they were filming a movie together I was immediately hooked and already felt a special connection to this unnamed masterpiece. This movie will fill your heart with joy, sadness, and love in its entirety whether that is through the soundtrack, characters, or the story of life itself.

We Live In Time gives us a simultaneous look into individual lives and joint life of Tobias Durand and Almut Bruhl. This movie leaves you with a heart that is broken and full all at the same time. Life is beautiful just as much as it is tragic and sometimes the line between the two can seem blurred. We are given a glimpse of this blurred line when Almut's stage three ovarian cancer relapses but finds herself unable to go through all of the treatment again so instead she would rather make the most out of what few months of life she does have left rather than waste the more time she is given upon doing the treatment. It is a tragedy because ultimately we, as well as the characters, know how that decision will end but there is also beauty to it in a sense knowing Almut, as well as Tobias, will be living and enjoying every bit of her life to its fullest potential.

We are taken on a journey through of life as well as a journey of love watching the two throughout this movie navigate living as well as loving. Watching the events of this movie unfold while knowing the limited time they are given reminds us all how lucky we are to have the time and the opportunity that we have on this Earth no matter how long or short it may be.  It also reminds us to live each day to its fullest potential and as if it is our last. Love while you can, live while you can, and love to live. It is also an important reminder of priorities and to never lose sight of what or who is most important. It becomes easier to fall victim to this, especially among the chaos of it all. Almut's love for Tobias and vice versa is a wonderful example of what it means to love someone else and give everything to them while still remembering to keep some for yourself.

One could argue this (as well as communication) are the most important factors in a relationship. Death is among the most difficult things to cope with, most especially the death of loved one. It has been shown in a multitude of ways throughout the course of cinema. Loving someone is a sacrifice and in the case of this movie, to Tobias, because he lives everyday knowing it could be the last one with the person he loves the most, but nonetheless, it is a sacrifice he chooses to make up until the end. Even after the loved one is gone it does not mean that the love is gone, not in the slightest, the love as well as the presence is carried on in many different ways. The love Tobias has for Almut will remain in him as well as through their daughter Ella (name twin) and will continue to remain with them for the rest of time their lives.

Love, amidst its difficulties, is the most powerful gift a human can receive as well as give to others, it is expressed in a multitude of different ways and to a multitude of different people throughout our lifetime but this movie shows that no matter how challenging love gets it is worth fighting for. Love knows no boundaries. Love is happy, love is sad, love is kind, love is sometimes harsh, but love is everywhere, all you have to do is look around and allow it to be. If you take anything from this movie please take away the importance of life as well as the importance of love and know what a privilege it is to be alive. No matter how long or short your time on this Earth is, love every bit of it while living it to its fullest potential.
